After this morning’s Super-G warm-up, the Austrian super champion Matthias Meyer made everyone speechless by announcing the end of his career. After Swiss Beat Feuz’s announcement, another legend of the alpine skiing world has chosen Bormio to bid farewell to competitions.
What’s the reason why? “No more passion, that’s why I’ve decided to stop, but I think I'll be part of the world of ski”. This is the comment by Matthias that surprised everyone at the ski stadium area. The Austrian champion, who was born in 1990, has won almost it all in his career. His palmares is a royal one: 3 gold olympic medals (Super-G in Sochi 2014, Pyenogchang 2018 and DH in Beijing 2022), and 11 World Cup victories (7 DH, 3 super-G and 1 combined). Matthias left his mark at Stelvio too with a victory in 2020, interrupting Dominik Paris' consecutive victories. Here at Bormio we want to thank Matthias for all the emotions of his fantastic career and for always appreciating the races at Stelvio. Good luck for your future, Matthias!
