With a great first run which took place under a heavy snowfall, the Slovenian athlete Zan Kranjec is now first place in the giant slalom race in Santa Caterina Valfurva. The Slovenian is first before Swissman Marc Odermatt and Frenchman Alexis Pinturault. Meillard, Ford and Zubcic, plus Norwegians Kilde (1”04) and Kristoffersen (1”19) follow. Two Italians are in the top 30: Luca De Aliprandini, 17th (+2”05), and Giovanni Borsotti, 21st place (+2”26).
De Aliprandini: "There were a few traces, I didn't feel confident, I don't think I skied badly, maybe I turned a bit uphill, I didn't feel to do more direct lines. The gap is important, I'll try to do a good second run also cosidering tomorrow's giant slalom".
Borsotti: "It wasn't that bad, I could have done a little bit better in the lower part. The snow was heavy, there were traces, it wasn't possible to do an amazing run but I'm happy and confident with the second one: I will attack like in Soelden. I have to say congrats to the organization because - considering such conditions - they couldn't have done better ".
Kilde: “It's definitely a difficult race. I'm waiting for the second run, I'm fairly satisfied, I still have to give more in the afternoon”.
Ligety: “I didn't ski very well, the weather conditions aren't good but considering that, the track was still good”!
